In a rare showing of summer heat; the ACT Criterium Championships were held in 30 plus temperatures on the 24th of February.
Velo Canberra lined up with a strong contingent of 6 riders racing across, Elite and Masters 2 and 3 Categories.
In the Masters race, Velo put their best foot forward going on the attack early with Ben heading up the road, powering away to a comfortable lead. It wasn’t to be however and at just over half of the race completed Ben was drawn back into the bunch. Just as he rejoined the fray Steve hit out joined by Brad Morton. Again this break wasn’t to last and it wasn’t until Mick attacked in the final 10 minutes that the winning move was to form. Mick drove away from a tiring field building enough of an advantage to win Masters 2 solo, while Felix was able to take out second in the bunch sprint to collect the Bronze medal.
Back in the field Steve prepared himself to sprint it out for the Masters 3 title and was able to comfortably hold off Paul O’Connor for the title.
