Velo Canberra had a successful National Championship campaign this year; collecting three medals in the road race and time trial events. Allan and Mick opened the account in the Masters 2 time trial collecting Silver and Bronze Medals respectively. Peter Milostic from NSW put in a strong ride to improve on his time from the NSW championships a month ago to collect the gold. Steve picked up a top 10 in the Masters 3 event coming home in 9th place.
In the road race Masters 2 tackled a 96km course around the Goulburn/Gunning region. The pace was on from the outset with the Velo riders working hard to establish a break away but being closely marked by the bunch. Half way into the second lap Trevor Rix, riding in a guest role with Velo made a strong solo move. Trev was soon joined by riders from Manley, Parramata and Sydney Uni Velo teams. This group powered away from the chasing peloton with no other team willing to commit to the chase. In the final Trev lead out the sprint, only to be overhauled prior to the finish but holding on for 3rd place and the bronze medal.
The team is very happy with the results in these events which were one of the primary targets for the season. The team will now focus its attention on the Tour of Bright in early December where the Velo will be fielding teams in both A Grade Men and Masters 1/2/3 Men.
